Re: Mayo Report

Exactly, it's a focus on extracting as many $ as possible out of the existing fan base instead of: (a) building new fans -or- (b) encouraging existing fans to try new stuff. I think that the way Marvel and DC plan on growing the readership is through digital. Right now both companies are in a spot ...

Re: Mayo Report

There's a lot of talk about Marvel vs. DC and how DC seems to have a stronger base of readership on ongoing monthly titles as opposed to Marvel using gimmicks. I'm slightly oversimplifying the discussion but I feel that's the gist of how you and Bob feel. John, probably you more than Bob. In general...

A couple of responses to the last Comics Mayo Report. 1. I agree with Bob that people that actually pre-order or pay attention to Previews is probably pretty small. I would guess most people show up at the show and buy what they get habitually or what interests them. I don't think an insignificant a...

What started you collecting? The first comics I remember getting were Star Wars right after the movie came out. My mom got my brother and I a subscription that a neighbor was selling for school. After that I skip ahead to Uncanny X-Men 196. This started my love affair with the X-Men and I've been m...

Axel Alonso came out and said that they plan on making things up to cover short issues. So if an issue came out with 19 pages next month or a couple months down the road it may have 24 pages or 26 pages. He made it sound as if they are doing this in an effort either to accomodate the story or make s...

Lots of sellouts

The LCS I hit in Austin has been selling out of pretty much everything. I went in last Wednesday 30 minutes after they opened and 1/2 the books were sold out. I think people are using their site's weekly pull list. I talked to one of the owners and he said that they would have ordered more of everyt...

John, I think that we'll see a similar sales number for Gen. Hope 11. It ties into Schism as well. In fact I hear that 11 ties into Schism more tightly than 10 did.

But I get the point you're making about event tie-ins getting a bump and then going back down to the pre tie-in numbers.

Glad that you guys both liked Ultimate X #5. For me this is my issue of the year so far. Some may say that the point of view character was gimmicky but I enjoyed it. My understanding of this title was that it was supposed to be a bi-monthly ongoing. Adams got late, no surprise really, but it was due...

FYI, I accidentally linked to the Mayo Report: 2011-0 4 Trades episode in the RSS feed instead of the Mayo Report: 2011-0 5 Trades episode. I've fixed the link. You might need to download it from the website to get the right episode. Sorry about the mix up. And, yes, HeroesMask, you are correct abo...

Mayo Report 2011 - 05 Trades

You guys mentioned the Walking Dead Compendium as being 24 issues. It's the first 48 issues. That thing is HUGE. It would be a useful tool to whack Zombies in the head with when the apocalypse comes. The value is there for the money. It's a great reference copy but the spine gets pretty messy over t...

Re: Geoff Johns article on CNN.com

John & Bob both quoted....... http://www.cnn.com/2011/SHOWBIZ/05/10/geoff.johns.go/index.html?hpt=C2 John's quote leads off the article! "There is a sense that he is 'one of us,' a true fan of comics." That's how John Mayo, co-host of the Comic Book Page podcast, describes Geoff Johns...

In Escape From the Planet of the Apes, Cornelius and Zira recount the history which involved a few hundred years between the time apes were first taken as pets and when Alto led the revolution. In Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, Caesar (not Alto) lead the revolution hundreds of years earlier th...

Great show with this week's issues. Read two out of the three. First, Action 900. Overall I enjoyed it. I think it was worth the $5.99 asking price. Also agree on the accessibility thing, but I think there's enough 1 off content to make people happy. As far as the citizenship thing. I wish I could s...

Mayo Report: 2010-08 Comics

I've been reading X-Men pretty solid for over 25 years and my collection goes back further than that. I don't consider Namor an X-Man. I guess he's a mutant in the true sense of the word but, he wasn't born any different than he should have been. If you cross an Atlantean and a human Namor is what y...
