Re: ANAD Marvel already done in?

Bleedingcool wrote that Marvel recently entered a joint agreement with Heroic Publications over the publishing of a new Marvel comic series Champions comic, while still allowing Heroic who own the trademark to publish its own line of Champions-related titles. Marvel Registers Trademark For ‘League ...

Re: ANAD Marvel already done in?

I just wonder if Heroic Publishing had the rights to continue doing a Champions comic book but perhaps not the right to let someone else use the trademark. It is also possible that some of the deals which allow some of the many companies involve to do what they do predate some of the later changes ...

Re: ANAD Marvel already done in?

We aren't talking broad spectrum IP here though, just the matter of trademarks. That is the only part of Intellectual Property which prevented Marvel from publishing a comic book with the title Champions when they put out The Order . If they'd wanted to at the time, they even could have still called...

Re: ANAD Marvel already done in?

Heroic Publishing is still publishing a Champions title. Clearly I'm a little confused about the ownership of the Champions property. There is a comic book title from Heroic Publishing, a role playing game from Hero Games and an online multiplayer computer game from Cryptic Studios. Presumably whoe...

Re: ANAD Marvel already done in?

I'm more curious if Champions #1 will come out with that title or if they will have to rename it like they did with The Order. I thought Marvel lost the trademark for Champions ages ago back when the role playing game came out or when comics based on the role playing game came out. They've apparent...

Re: Subscription Boxlight

I guess Funko doesn't have an exclusive deal with Marvel, as Loot Crate has announced a bi-monthly Marvel Gear + Goods crate. I think they'd need to be working directly with Marvel to be able to brand it so explicitly. Apparently it will focus on apparel and collectible home goods (?), which is a bi...

Re: Recording a Q&A episode on 2016-03-02

The issue of bimonthly, biweekly, biannually etc. meaning both "twice every" and "every two" is actually centuries old. The terms really need context to determine which is being meant, and often it is recommended to simply not use the terms and simply say which you really mean - ...

Re: Recording a Q&A episode on 2016-03-02

++++++++ And this is specifically for Drew, you may want to correct your brother, Kyle. I listen to your podcast also, and he frequently refers to books shipping twice in a month as "bi-monthly" which in actuality means "every 2 months." What he probably means to say is "bi...

Re: Subscription Boxlight

While I think the Marvel/Star Wars/DC nature of Funko's three subscription boxes provide a stronger focus than the more general Lootcrate, Nerdblock, ComicConBox, etc. boxes, I have decided that I would rank the IP nature of the boxes second behind one's interest in Funko Pops in terms of recommendi...

Legion of Collectors - Funko's DC subscription box

Just saw a tweet announcing Funko's DC subscription box, to go along with Marvel Collector's Corps and Star Wars Smuggler's Bounty. They are calling this one Legion of Collectors and the first box will focus on Batman vs. Superman. Ordering closes on 3/1 (although based on the fact I could add the f...

Re: Subscription Boxlight

In looking for information on the Funko/Star War box mentioned in the recent episode, I found out that Funko apparently announced not only the SW box but also a DC box at SDCC back in July. The DC box supposedly should start sometime in early 2016, but I didn't find anything more specific than that....

Re: Subscription Boxlight

Thank you, John & Kay, for these Boxlight episodes. More and more of these seem to be cropping up, and it is interesting hearing you open the boxes and review them. I've thought about doing Loot Crate a couple of times, generally after some particular box comes out which has something that sound...

Re: Good idea or bad idea???

I was all in on Valiant, in fact twice over, as I bought both the comics and the trades. With this move, I will now be all out. There are too many good books out there to waste time supporting a company which thinks this little of their fans to put out a 24 page comic for $20. (At DCBS at least - I ...

Did you order Magneto when it was a "new" listing or as a re-order? I ask because I have been ordering these figures from DCBS for years and have never had a problem in getting them, but I always order them when they are first solicited. I have ALSO noticed I frequently have problems gett...

Well, I ordered Magneto back in January from DCBS and it still is listed as being on order, so I don't know if there is an issue with Diamond or DCBS. Personally I've found these figurines to be an area where DCBS doesn't do a great job. Roughly a third of the time I've ordered figurines, I end up w...
