Re: Mayo Report

I hope that digital can play a part in solving some of these issues and I definitely think that a great advantage of digital must be that you could order a series on issue-by-issue merit rather than pre-ordering a chunk, having had no sight of the product. However, every month I stand on the precipi...

Re: Previews Spotlight #077 (Mar -> May): Mar 8, 5pm PT/7pm

Just a quick thank you to Sam and TJ who highlighted Andre the Giant:Life and Legend by Box Brown. I only heard about this book because of this show and as a fan of both classic wrestling and research based true life stories (whether it be biographies like this, or the true crime work of rick geary)...

Re: Mayo Report

You discussed the disappointing nature of the performance of Valiant Comics in the sales, after the high point of Unity #1. Anecdotally, I got into the Valiant books a year or so into the run on the basis of your recommendation on the podcasts and so started collecting the trades because; one I was ...

Re: Mayo Report

I'm not convinced it is really possible to be a casual comic book fan these days. If the casual fans haven't been priced out of the hobby, they are likely to be over the course of the next year or two. With crossovers, events, relaunches and the like, it seems increasingly difficult to dabble in co...

Re: Mayo Report

if Batman continues to put out at 5, 6, 8 bucks an issue I am done, even with a few measly extra pages, it feels predatory and very little ROI... Yeah, I'm torn at the moment as I've enjoyed Snyder's run of Batman since the detective stuff. However, we had a 4.99 annual in July, then issue 24 was 6...

Re: Mayo Report

Great episodes over the festive period. I agree that it would be great to have a clearer idea of how people react to these dropping off points and change their pull lists accordingly. I get the feeling that it's not always going off of a book that leads to it being dropped. Rather, most people have ...

Re: Mike's Week Reads and Ranks

Glad to see the Breath of Bones mini-series get consistently high marks from you. Not heard many people mention it, but I think this was a really great little series. The story went where you would have expected from the solicits for the series, but was executed excellently and I loved the art.

Re: Words, panels and pages in Books

Just a word of appreciation for the analysis that's going on here. I'm really enjoying this look at what people are finding satisfying and worthy of their purchasing pounds/dollars and think having analysis such as this really can tie into discussions over the sales figures etc., because I believe v...

Re: 2013 Eisner Award nominees announced

I look at the Eisners as the Academy Awards of comics. Just like the Academy generally snubs most popular "big box office" movies I love to watch, the Eisners generally pass by the vast majority of mainstream super-hero comics. There are exceptions where the Eisners & Academy will ack...

Re: Introduce yourself!

I am always on the look out for new series or trades in the detective/crime solving genre and welcome any recommendations. Hi, Simon!!! Have you checked out the Stumptown series' by Greg Rucka published through Oni?? Excellent stuff in the crime/detective genre. Thanks for the recommend. I haven't ...

Re: Introduce yourself!

Hi guys, have made a couple of posts in topics since joining the forum earlier this week, before noticing this introduce yourself topic- so here's a slightly belated introduction. I'm Simon and I'm from the south coast of England, though currently living and working in a museum in Wales. I started r...

Re: "All-in"?

I find with the multiple batman books that i find one or two of them that gets me my fill without getting all the books in that family of titles, which often mean following a creator less to my tastes in at least one book. For example? I'm interested in this. I used to follow titles, but with all t...

Re: "All-in"?

I must say, in a purely unscientific fashion anecdotal evidence would suggest to me that there is a vanguard of readers bearing a greater share of the customer base. I'm nowhere near all in (and even if it is practicable i don't think i could keep handing over money for the more average books)but i ...

Re: Worldwide Comic Pre-Orders vs. U.S. Sales

Being from the UK I presumed automatically; of course the overseas amount makes up such a small percentage because 'brick-and-mortar' stores are much few-and-further between and going to a physical non-comic book store and buying a comic is much less common. It was then when searching on diamond's s...
